  1. I know everyone is just waiting for this article to appear.  Wondering where I
  2. have been with all this information about CEBit.  I have been rather busy with
  3. all the new info and distributing it to various clients and fellow Mac and other
  4. computer enthusiasts.  Nows your turn.

  6.     The most impressive thing I saw at the expo was the Mac PowerBook with
  7. wireless fax & modem capabilities.  Yes, turn on your PowerBook and communicate
  8. with just about anybody with no power outlet or telephone or telephone cable
  9. necessary.   Seen it already ?  Well for us living in Germany it is spectacular
  10. because the stand-alone computer and communications done all over a radio sig-
  11. nal is two tricks in one.  If you know anything about our wonderful Bundespost
  12. Telephone system (a monopoly I might add), you will also know that most people
  13. would rather have six molars pulled on six separate occassions at their local
  14. dentist before they would attempt to get anything approved at the BP (German)
  15. Telephone system.  Here it has to be tested and retested and it costs a lot of
  16. nerves, money and we shouldn't mention red tape.  Since they are the only con-
  17. troler of all forms and types of communications, you either do it their way or
  18. forget the whole.  So bravo Apple for showing that you know the right sorcerer,
  19. provided the 18 year old virgin, and have a close family member working for the
  20. German Telephone System.  Up to today that is the only way to get anything done
  21. there.  These requirements are not to be substituted by a endless amount of
  22. patience and dedication to your cause.  To sum up this paragraph, the battle is
  23. not only fought in the factory in Germany when it comes to introducing new ideas.

  25.     Other places I managed to cram into three days were Mac Vonk, also very
  26. aggressive software producers on the Mac marketplace.  They produce RagTime, a 
  27. very productive tool for the Macintosh.  It lets you work with just one program
  28. to produce Text (word processing) with pipelining (when necessary) and spelling
  29. checkers in 14 different languages (and yes you can use all 14 in the same doc-
  30. ument (even the same page); Speadsheets, that can also contain text (great for
  31. aligning columns instaed of using tabs) and it works like Lotus, Excel and can
  32. share information with them too; Pictures from most any other Mac graphics pro-
  33. gram; Business Graphics that can be linked to speadsheet info for instant updat-
  34. ing.  RagTime can do layout work, letters, invoices, inventory and anything else
  35. you need for that small to middle sized business or office.  A new addition to
  36. the line is Address Manager.  This allows you to look for information , such as
  37. telephone numbers from a desk accessory and can be programmed to search for info
  38. you select and insert it directly into Mail merge letters or invoices or any
  39. other RagTime document.  It can also contain special information or notes to be
  40. inserted into the body of the document.  NetOctopus is also available from Mac
  41. Vonk (there is a Mac Vonk USA too) which allows you to contol, track, and do
  42. upgrading in your entire network from one node.  No more installing a new sys-
  43. tem version or program upgrade 8 or 10 or 16 times.  Do it all from one Mac
  44. anywhere in the LocalTalk network (the program can also be used on EhterNet).
